History of San Beda Law Alumni Association

HE SAN BEDA LAW ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The San Beda Law Alumni Association had its first organizational meeting on October 29, 1981 at the San Beda College Cafeteria with close to 250 graduates representing all classes since 1952. Prof. Bernardo P. Fernandez (LL.B.’53), presided over the meeting. But just like in many organizations, sustaining the high level of enthusiasm at the beginning of the association confronted its early organizers. In January 1999 however, a group of sports minded Bedan lawyers decided to form the San Beda Law Golf Club to serve as a nucleus to facilitate the reactivation of the San Beda Law Alumni Association, Inc. Among the organizers and initial members were Atty. Francisco P. Acosta (LL.B.’71), Atty. Norberto P. Manzano (LL.B.’73), Atty. Alfredo C. Lim (LL.B.’76), Atty. Jeremy Z. Parulan (LL.B.’83), Atty. Arthur P. Tugade (LL.B.’71), Atty. Artemio Winston D. Bahia III (LL.B.’90), Atty. Alfred L. Villamor, Jr. (LL.B.’88), Atty. Salvador C. Medialdea (LL.B.’76) and Atty. Leo C. Medialdea, Jr. (LL.B.’80). They started holding monthly golf tournament as a vehicle for attracting other Bedan lawyers to be interested in alumni affairs. It was largely through the initiative of the San Beda Law Golf Club whose membership had grown to 80 in less than a year that a reorganizational meeting of the San Beda Law Alumni Association Inc. was successfully held at the well-attended Country Club on January 12, 2000 and followed by a well-attended law alumni homecoming at the Manila Peninsula Hotel on August 13, 2001. Elected officers were, Atty. Atty. Avelino V. Cruz, Chairman, Atty. Rodolfo D. Robles, Vice-Chairman, Atty. Sixto S. Brillantes, Jr., President, Atty. Francisco P. Acosta, Vice-President, Atty. Jeremy Z. Parulan, Treasurer, Atty. Gwendolyn E. Malaya, Corporate Secretary, Atty. Anna Marie Melanie B. Trinidad, Assistant Corporate Secretary, Trustees: Atty. Salvador C. Medialdea, Atty. Alfredo L. Villamor, Atty. Artemio Winston D. Bahia III, Atty. Roberto F. de Leon, Atty. Alfredo C. Lim, Atty. Dante Q. Barbosa, Atty. Ernesto R. Añasco, Atty. Norberto P. Manzano.

Today, the San Beda Law Alumni Association is a force to reckon with, and has continued to be formidable partner of the school in realizing its mission of law education. The SBLAA today continues to track the paths pursued by San Beda’s law graduates and to foster a sense of bonding among them through a nationwide organization of alumni with regional chapters and circles in key locations all united to a common goal of becoming Bedans for others.
