History of San Beda University Alumni Association
The history of the San Beda University Alumni Association can be traced back many decades ago when the Articles of Incorporation of the San Beda Alumni Association together with its By-Laws were first filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on February 4, 1955 and approved by Commissioner Mariano Pineda on February 8, 1955 with the following incorporators: Jesus S. Cabarrus (HS ’27), Antonio C. Delgado (El’31 HS ’35), Alfredo Villa-Abrille (El ’31 HS ’34), Antonio Roxas-Chua (HS ’34), Benito Lim (El ’18 HS ’22), Jose Go Ching Yan, Jose D. Gelano (CS ’18 HS ’22), and Oscar Uy (El ’30 HS ’34). Temistocles Elviña, Jr. (El ’36 HS ’40) was the secretary.
On April 11, 1978, the Articles of Incorporation and the By-Laws were amended and filed with the SEC by the following Directors of the Association: Kishu D. Sehwani (El’ 49 HS ’53), Ramon Melendez (El ’49 HS ’53), Nanki B. Hiranand (E; ’48 HS ’52 BSC ’57), Raul Gonzales (HS ’52 AB ’55), Jose C. Urgino (HS ’53), Vicente B. Arando (HS ’50), Antonio C. Ortiz (El ’49, HS ’53), Jose B. Clarin (El ’57, HS ’61), Charles B. Rodriguez (El ’48, HS ’52), Benjamin L. Dy-Buncio (HS ’49), and Jose T. Mañosa (El ’48, HS ’51).
On May 05, 1988, the SEC issued an order directing the corporation to appear before the Commission and show cause why the certificate of registration of the Alumni Association should not be revoked for failure to (1) submit the General Information Sheet and (2) submit the financial statements (Balance Sheet and Statement of Income). No representative appeared in behalf of the Association and so on December 9, 1988, the SEC issued the order of suspension.
From 1988 to 1996, the San Beda Alumni Association (SBCAA) was operating without government recognition.
To set the record straight: in 1996, the SBCAA Board of Directors of the Association requested Atty. Constantino L. Navarro III (HS ’78) to find out what can be done to obtain proper government recognition. Atty. Navarro reported that the fastest and easiest way would be for the alumni to file an application for the registration of a new non-stock corporation. The new articles of incorporation and a new set of by-laws were then prepared for submission to the SEC. On November 8,1996, Atty. Navarro successfully registered the non-stock corporation under the new name SAN BEDA COLLEGE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, Incorporated, with the following incorporators: Tomas P. Africa (EL’ 62, HS ’66), Dante Q. Barbosa (AB ’57, LLB ’60), Artemio A. Tanchoco (HS ’67), Ramon Ricardo Roque (El ’72, HS ’76) Teodorico Beronilla (El’65, HS ’69), Billy Ong Hua Chiong (CAS ’65), Eduardo B. Favila (HS ’71), Joaquin C. Loyzaga (HS ’76), Rene J. Katigbak (El 61, HS ’65), Gabriel P. Mathay (HS ’70), Constantino Navarro III (HS ’78), Dom Clement Roque,OSB (HS ’62, CAS ’66), Gerard B. Sanvictores (HS ’72), Anthony Araw (HS ’72), and Albert P. Almendralejo (HS ’77).
To date, the SBCAA has remained as the most formidable partner of the San Beda College in the realization of its mission and vision, educational thrust and objectives.
