Outstanding Bedan Sixto Brillantes, Jr. is new chair of COMELEC (HS ’56, BSC ‘Accounting & Auditing ’60, Law ’65) A true blooded Bedan Atty. Sixto S. Brillantes, Jr. was named recently by President Noynoy Aquino as chairman of the Commission of Elections. The new COMELEC Chief took his oath of office before Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Nachura, another outstanding Bedan. Atty. Brilliantes is serving the unexpired portion of COMELEC Chair Jose Melo’s nine year term that officially ends in 2015. A Certified Public Accountant and placed seventh (7th) in the 1965 bar examination, Atty. Brillantes was also president of the SBC Law Alumni Association (2000 – 2006). His father Sixto Sr., also served as COMELEC commissioner from 1956-1965, during the Magsaysay, Garcia and Macapagal administrations. The entire SBC Community wishes him well, confident that like other Bedans in government service, he too will make us proud belonging to the Bedan race.
