“HASTA LUEGO” – Fr. Benabarre to stay in Spain for some months

Fr. Benabarre to stay in Spain for some months

Rev. Fr. Benigno Benabarre, OSB, Assistant Moderator of the San Beda College Alumni Association, will leave for Madrid, Spain on June 8, 2011, and stay in said country for  several months.

The trip to his native land, being born in Aler, Huesca, Spain, will have two purposes: a) to visit his 100-year old sister and 87-year old brother, who like him, are still relatively healthy in mind and body; and b) to conduct a research in the lives of the first four abbots superiors of the Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat, Manila, and of the first four Rector of the College.

Rt. Rev. Fr. Tarcisio Ma. H. Narciso, OSB Abbot-Chancellor, has given permission to Fr. Benigno to take a “sabbatical leave” (with work), a much needed break for someone who has recently turned 96 years old.

It will be recalled that Fr. Benigno first arrived in the Philippines in 1950 as a Benedictine, and was part of the local Benedictine Community for 17 years. Very sickly, he left Manila for Spain in 1967. He returned to the Philippines in 2004, and reincorporated himself for good to the Benedictine Abbey here in Manila.

Fr. Benigno will surely be missed by the Bedan Community, especially by the countless number of alumni whose lives he has continuously touched even in his advanced age. And so to Fr. Benigno, we say – “Hasta Luego!”
