The San Beda College Alumni Foundation (SBCAF) formally established the Jesus P. Francisco Distinguished Professorial Chair in Energy Efficiency and Environment Management last November 10, 2010 at the Graduate School of Business. Rev. Fr. Aloysius Maranan, OSB, rector-president and Dr. Jaime Galvez Tan, SBCAF president led the formal launching with outstanding Bedan Mr. Jesus "Chito" P. Francisco, wife Mariel and other family members in attendance.

Mr. Francisco was presented a special plaque of citation by Fr. Rector, recognizing his spirited commitment to transform society and his exemplary service to the nation, church and global community through his advocacy on environmental protection; his contributions to the Philippine energy sector in pursuit of energy efficiency; and his embodying the Benedictine ideals of peace, humility, service, prayer and work, and the Bedan values of faith, knowledge and virtue. Chito expressed gratitude to the SBC Administration for the citation, and shared with the entire Bedan community his appreciation of the quality Benedictine formative education he received from San Beda College. He fondly recalled how he could not refuse the request of his former principal Rev. Fr. Benigno Benabarre when the latter came to see him for a possible professorial chair donation.

Chito also expressed his desire for his professorial chair to have special focus on energy efficiency and environment management. Dean Ramon Ricardo Roque of the Graduate School of Business (GSB) was chosen to be the recipient of this professorial chair. For his part, Dean Roque committed to conduct a research on how the GSB and the entire College can have an advocacy on the environment. During the launching ceremony, Dean Roque shared his plan to establish a partnership with the Manila Observatory to build an evidence-based disaster risk decision support system. Mrs. Toni Yulo-Loyzaga, Executive Director of the Manila Observatory, was present during the ceremony and shared how SBC can help in the protection of the environment.

It was an affair to remember not only for the generosity of Bedans like Mr. Francisco, but moreso for its great advocacy on environmental protection.
