Drama Cuna in San Beda

News - Campus Updates

Rachy Z. Cuna is one outstanding Bedan who has always been grateful to his Bedan education that every year, he considers it as his panata to decorate the Abbey Church and the carosas during the annual Sto. NiƱo procession in San Beda College. However, it is only this year that this one and only “Floral Architect of the Philippines” has staged a month-long art installation exhibit at the San Beda Heritage Center: Pamanang Bedista, per invitation of Rev. Fr. Anselm Manalastas, OSB, vice president for services and in-charge of the College’s museum.

Dubbed “DramaCuna”, this features colourful installations made of indigenous materials and everyday things. Some of these pieces are abstract paintings in brilliant ‘Bedan’ red that are accentuated by earth-colored beads. Though making use of seemingly ordinary materials, Rachy’s pieces are innovative and tasteful. In them, one captures a mixture of nature and art.

As with all of Rachy’s works, ‘DramaCuna’ puts forth fun-filled, playful spin on Filipino customs and traditions and our rich popular culture.

Truly, this highly-acclaimed international stylist’s installation exhibits is undeniably Pinoy artistry and ingenuity at its best, and his Bedan family has only praises for his shares his love for the Filipino culture and heritage via his drama and dreams, DramaCuna!
