COLLEGE ADMINISTRATION HOLDS STRATEGIC PLANNING

The SBC administration conducted a three-day strategic planning workshop at the Eugenio Lopez Center in Antipolo City last September 9-11, 2010. The planning session with the theme “Building a school for the Lord’s service” enabled the new College administration to a) further understand the mission of Christian education considering Church teachings, global and Philippine realities, and the personal needs of young learners and professionals; b) appreciate the identity and mission of Benedictine education including its unique characteristics; and, c) understand some established standards for quality education from accrediting and other standard-setting bodies, and in the process chart SBC’s future, and take on the challenges of the 21st century education.

Mrs. Charito Cannon-Garcia, a former high school faculty member and administrator, and now planning consultant for various schools and corporations, served as lead facilitator. All the top office heads and deans of both the academic and non-academic departments presented the current profile of the different academic units, including services and finance in order to appreciate the strengths and understand the challenges of each of the units; and, identified the areas of growth and strategies that will be used to align action plans and programs of the different units. Among the items resolved include: a) studying the feasibility of creating a compliance office to oversee the implementation of the PAASCU recommendations etc.; b) regularly convening the academic council; c) setting clearer functions of the human resource office and the public relations office; and, d) speeding up of physical plant improvements.

In his closing talk, Fr. Aloysius Maranan, OSB, College rector-president, thanked the administrator-participants for their valued inputs shared during the three-day planning session, confident that SBC’s future is in a better shape specially so when all members of the Bedan Community are working together.
