History of San Beda College Alumni Foundation

On June 7, 1978 a group of alumni – Charles B. Rodriguez (El ’48, HS ’52), Vicente B. Fernandiz (HS ’54, BCS ’58), Benjamin L. Dy-Buncio; Kishu D. Sehwani (El ’49, HS ’53), Gregorio S. Oca (HS ’46), Antonio Roxas Chua (HS ’34) and Aurello Periquet, Jr. (HS ’46) as incorporators – filed in Securities and Exchange Commission the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws of the San Beda College Alumni Foundation, Inc. These were approved by the then-Commissioner Julio Sulit, who issued the necessary registration. The foundation operated as a non-stock, non-profit corporation from 1978 to 1988. However, for failing to submit the General Information Sheet and the annual financial statements, the registration was revoked.

The Board of Trustees of the Foundation for 1997, knowing that the Foundation was operating without government recognition, commissioned Edgardo B. Favila (HS ’71), a member of the Board, to work out a scheme for re-registration. Ed Favila successfully negotiated the registration of a new foundation with the name “San Beda College Alumni Foundation, Inc.” with the following incorporators: Jaime Glavez Tan (HS ’66), Ricardo Barreiro (El ’66, HS ’70), Francisco Aquino, Jr. (El ’66, HS ’70), Dom Clement Roque, OSB (HS ’62), Ricardo Liwanag, Felipe M. Buencamino (El ’48, HS ’52, BSC ’55), Hilarion G. Mendoza, Jr. (HS ’51, LlB ’57), Billy Ong Hua Chiong (BCS ’65), Dante Q. Barbosa (AA ’54, AB ’57, LlB ’60)Ramon Ricardo Roque (El ’72, HS ’76). Tomas P. Africa (El ’62, HS ’66), Constantino Navarro III (El ’74, CAS ’82 LlB ’86), Edgardo B. Favila (HS ’71), Gabriel Mathay (HS ’70), and Teodorico C. Beronilla (HS ’69).

On June 3, 1997 the Securities and Exchange Commission issued SEC Reg. No. A-1937-07642 approving the incorporation of the San Beda College Alumni Foundation, Inc.

The San Beda College Alumni Foundation (SBCAF), an association of Bedans alumni/ae is committed to raising funds as a service to its alma mater in her educational apostolate; and its contribution to the Church and Philippine society to building the future.
As it pursues its apostolate, the SBCAF envisions itself, growing as a serving community of Bedans that joined with friends, contributes to the development and progress of San Beda College, and eventually assist to building the future.
With hope for the realization of that VISION, the San Beda College Alumni Foundation aims to raise substantial funds –
  • to support a significant number of young and deserving but financially challenged students to uplift themselves in society through quality Benedictine education; and
  • to provide assistance to faculty members to fulfill their vocations to lead, to teach, to become advocates of new knowledge and be witnesses of Christ
